STEP 1
Motorcycle Permit Practice TestThe first step to getting your motorcycle license is passing the written permit test. Our free online practice tests are designed specifically to help you prepare for the New York DMV motorcycle knowledge exam, covering road signs, traffic laws, and safe riding practices.The NYS DMV motorcycle permit test covers everything from right-of-way rules to speed limits and proper riding techniques. Taking our practice tests helps you familiarize yourself with the question format and build the confidence you need to pass on your first try.Even if you already have a car driver's license, you will still need to pass the motorcycle permit test to add a motorcycle endorsement to your license. Our practice tests are a convenient way to brush up on the specific rules that apply to motorcycle riders in New York State.Best of all, our permit practice tests are completely free. The 5-Hour ClassBefore you can take your road test, you must complete the New York State five-hour pre-licensing course (MV-278). This DMV-required class is now offered online via Zoom — no need to come in person.The course covers road safety, basic vehicle operation, and New York State traffic laws. Upon completion, you'll receive a certificate that is valid for one year and required when scheduling your road test.FDS offers this class at a competitive rate with discounts available for students enrolled in our riding or driving programs. It's free for anyone taking more than 21 hours of lessons with us.Our certified instructors guide you through the material and are available to answer questions. Once finished, we can mail your certificate or you can pick it up at our Queens or Brooklyn locations.Get Started

Rider Training LessonsWhether you've never sat on a motorcycle before or just need to sharpen your technique, our rider training lessons are designed to build the skills and confidence you need to ride safely on New York roads.Our certified instructors work with students at all skill levels. Lessons take place in a safe, controlled environment before progressing to real-world road conditions. Sessions can be booked at any of our NYC locations.You must be at least 16 years old to apply for a motorcycle license in New York State. If you're under 18, additional requirements may apply. Schedule Your Road TestThe road test is the final milestone on your path to earning a motorcycle license in New York. Defensive DrivingOur New York State-approved Defensive Driving course is a great complement to any riding program. Drivers and riders who complete the course can receive up to a 10% auto insurance discount for three years, as well as a reduction of up to 4 points on their driving record.The course is available online and can be completed at your own pace.
